Janie M Selvaggio

A BIG BELLAVIOLETTA THANK YOU TO JANIE SELVAGGIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been fortunate in my life to have met so many wonderful creative souls. Jane Selvaggio is one of those souls.

Jane and i meet on Etsy. She was a repeat customer buying many sets of my doedoes and stars. I was curious. i am always curious about what people do with my embellishments and art. I convoed her and she wrote back. We talked for a while and she sent me a link to her fiber art. WOW! She has so many goodies to see at http://fiberartsmixedmedia.ning.com/profile/JanieMSelvaggio

My favorites are the under sea postcards. Swimming Amongst Friends is so uplifting. She got the Mermaid from Joy Serwylo an artist from Australia. she added vintage tatting, brads of tiny fish, bits of fibers, scraps of fibers and other fun flourishes.

She just knocked me out with what she did with my doedoe's and stars. Don't forget The Flowers has a doedoe and one star. Its done in shades of gold with vintage ric rac, beads, hand dyed fibers, sequins, tiny flowers-just so much goodness.

This postcard is just in time for the 4th of July. Its called 4th of July! The super cute beads are from Jamie at The Critter Company (crittercompany.etsy.com). this one has to make you smile.

I asked Jane where she got her postcard blanks and she was kind enough to share her source. http://www.wildheatherdesigns.com/tearpobl.html
the blanks are hand dyed Peltex. wildheatherdesigns.com carries postcard and atc blanks in many color choices.

Here is a direct quote from Janes Etsy profile--"I was diagnosed with a rare terminal lung disease about 5 years ago, Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, shortly after moving to Colorado and only recently have started to make wallhangings again, since I have become more housebound. Recently a friend said something to me, which made me see that even though my life has changed about being outdoors so much, I still have something to be thankful for and that is my love of creating. I realized I missed what I had loved doing. I now have a reason to look forward to each and every new day God gives me here on this Earth. "

You can read more about Jane on her Etsy profile of her Etsy shop oneredbead.etsy.com you may notice she has not listed any of her work for sale here. i have been encouraging her to do so. if anyone else out there wants to join me in encouraging her about the joys of Etsy please jump in and comment here or convo her there. She also has a nice personal write up on http://fiberartsmixedmedia.ning.com/profile/JanieMSelvaggio

I just can't say enough thank you's to Jane. i am so very blessed to crossed paths with you Jane!!

  1. OMG!!! All these pieces are "Out of this World" fabulous!!!! I love them all!!! They really interest me because I have just started a new art technique and I am going to be making collage art and I posted my very 1st one on my blog. I was going to do a mermaid first, since I make 3d mermaid mobiles anyway and I just went to the beach and scavenged for shells and driftwood, but the Melange site was having a contest for collage art with their team and welcomed outsiders and the theme is "serendipity", so I figured that would be a good way to start. I love the mermaid featured here! I also love your doe birds featured. I have made many collage cards using your doe birds, and a flower you made, for my loved ones, that ooood and awwwd over them!!!
Jane's work is AWESOME!!! Thanks for posting about such a talented artist and even though I don't know her, sounds like a wonderful person as well!!! I can relate to what she is going through, suddenly being on disability myself and being homebound. I grieved of course, the life I knew was over, but what came out of it was the time I had to work on my art. That was a blessing actually. To live in constant pain, and not be able to do what I used to do...Dear God what do you want me to do? I felt like I was a waste of space...but now I've come to realize God wanted me to use all my skills I've learned through the art job years and put it into my own art work. I also call that Serendipity. Or one door shuts and another one opens. I probably shouldn't be writing so much on a comment, but this post really sparked me! I have met a lot of very talented people that are ill, including you, that have used their time being productive & bringing more beauty into this world with our art work. I think what happened to us health wise could have bedridden us all the time or much worse, but we conquered that grief which shows me what strong people we all are. It takes a lot of Faith. Nice to meet you Jane! And thanks goes out to you Kimmy for such a wonderful post!

  3. Thanks for your comments Kimmy, and no I didn't take any pics of my doe doe bird cards, but I could get a pic of my Mom's bird card eventually...maybe my boyfriend's mom's day card. Plus a birthday card for my boyfriend's sister's daughter who turned 19. I also made one for my bff that lives in North Carolina with one of your flowers, and I gave her a doe doe bird as a gift....I still have more of your doe doe birds and probably will be buying more from you! What a terrific way to make special Christmas cards too! I never thought I could use your art work on my new venture of making collage art to sell, but I made these cards along with making them being magnets on the back of them without even thinking they were kinda collage art! Wow, I wish I had thought to take pics of them. Maybe I could write my loved ones to send me pics of them. I'll let you know!!!
